Our Committment

Direct from our ranch to you

Our free range 100% grass fed beef comes directly from our ranch to you. We are committed to a more natural and compassionate approach to ranching. We do the ranching according to the standards set by the American Grassfed Association and are Animal Welfare Approved. Processing is done at a USDA and Animal Welfare Approved facility where the meat is aged, cut, vacuum-packed, and flash-frozen. That is how we can ensure its quality and guarantee your satisfaction.

Sustainable, natural and compassionate

Ranching is a personal commitment – to our animals, to the land, water and air that nourish them.

We pride ourselves on using sustainable methods to produce a naturally pure, safe, healthy, nutritious, and sustainable product that will grace your table and satisfy your hunger for really delicious beef.

Potter 8 Ranch beef sets itself apart by the virtues provided by the ranch’s remote location. Spanning 1200 acres, and sitting at an altitude of 5000 feet, the Potter 8 Ranch is a pristine, unpolluted, vast landscape where the cattle enjoy the most natural, unadulterated life possible. Our cattle are finished on Sierra Valley meadow grass and alfalfa grown here on our ranch.

While this approach seems somewhat revolutionary, it’s the way cattle were raised for centuries and practiced in many other parts of the world known for great beef.

Satisfaction guarantee

Because of our personal commitment, we’re able to guarantee your complete satisfaction.

Potter 8 Ranch is a true grass fed beef in that cattle are never “finished” with the addition of grain to their diet. Many companies introduce grain to their cattle’s diet in addition to grass, and label it “grass fed”, misleading the customer. Potter 8 Ranch beef is exclusively grass fed beef.

Potter 8 Ranch beef derives its flavor from the grasses and plants the cattle graze on at the Potter 8 Ranch in Northern California and from the humane and stress- free environment we provide.

We believe we offer the best beef that mother nature has to offer. If your order does not meet that standard, call us for a full refund.

We are dedicated to the highest level of quality in the care of animals and customer service. Give us a call anytime at 530.993.1199. We’re always happy to chat!

Our Personal Story

The reason we chose to raise grass-fed beef is a personal one. Because of genetics I have very high cholesterol. Since I don’t do well with many medications, I decided to consult with an alternative health doctor. One of the dietary recommendations was grass-fed beef, along with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, etc. Eating beef to lower cholesterol? We began the research. Little did I realized where this was to take us.

“Dramatic changes in cattle husbandry practices in the past 200 years have caused fundamental changes in the nutritional characteristics of domesticated beef that may adversely impact human health by altering the fatty acid composition…” – American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2005;81:341-54

Research showed that grass-fed beef is high in omega 3 fatty acids, high in conjugated linoleic acids and also high in levels of fat-soluble vitamins A, C, D, E and K, plus higher protein levels.

Wow! This sounded like we were on the right path. Unfortunately our health journey soon brought on the realization that not all grass-fed beef tasted very good. Some of it was excellent…far better than any we had ever tasted…but some of it was the worst we had ever eaten. Why the inconsistency?

we experimented with many factors like feed and aging times until we achieved good results. Our search led to combining our Angus heard with Belted Galloways (an ancient breed that originated in the rugged hill country of southwestern Scotland used in the foundation breading for the modern Angus). This breed was first imported to the states in the 1850’s.

The Belted Galloway, unrivaled as a grazing breed, utilizes coarse grasses frequently shunned by other breeds. They have the ability to produce a high quality beef product directly from grass. Due to the breed’s naturally dense, insulating coat the Belted Galloway does not layer on excessive outside fat. The robust, hardy nature of the Belted Galloway is especially suited for northern harsh climates.

The claim that Belted Galloway beef is juicy, tender, and flavorful is substantiated in recent USDA tests of Galloway cross-breds, when compared with eleven other breeds. Results of the Cycle IV Germ Plasm Evaluation (GPE) Program at the USDA Meat Animal Research Center (MARC), Clay Center, Nebraska, showed the Galloway crosses placing at the top of the chart for flavor, juiciness and tenderness.

Producing high-quality, great-tasting beef in this way has been both challenging and rewarding. Production has increased slowly and, thankfully, our customers have increased along with it. – Christine Potter
